Warm Hubs are back this winter to provide communities with a local space to meet, keep warm and receive some support over the coming months.
Sessions are delivered by local groups who have received funding for the hubs from the UK government and Newport City Council to operate the sessions.
This page will update throughout the winter with the latest sessions taking place as well as our GAVO Newport Facebook events page which will list upcoming hub sessions.
*Please note, none of the hubs are directly operated by GAVO and you should contact the organising group for more information on the activities provided at the session.
What is a warm hub?
Warm Hubs (also known as Warm Banks, Warm Spaces, Cosy Corners or something similar) are safe and warm places within the local community where people can go to keep warm during the colder weather. With domestic fuel prices rising dramatically, it is expected that many people will struggle to keep their homes at a healthy temperature - particularly the elderly, the vulnerable and people who are at home all day (such as home workers).
But these funded sessions should be more than just a space to sit and keep warm. Organisations delivering the hubs offer more than this with a wide range of additional activities and services offered to support the local community this winter whether that's advice and support sessions, arts & crafts activities, food and refreshments.
With this in mind the warm hub is perhaps more of a community space for anyone to use to connect and support the local community, therefore removing some of the stigma attached around previous versions of the scheme.
How do I get involved?
Each hub is being delivered by different organisations so the process and activities on offer will vary.
Use the Map below to find your local opportunity or use the list below to visit the groups social media accounts and websites to find the very latest information.
You can also open up the map in full screen to search for hubs via a postcode search, just click on the bracket's icon on the right of the map.
Timetable of sessions, please check with the group at least 2 days before activity is due to take place as dates and times may alter due to holidays etc.
